Applications
Who may apply?
The company responsible for an eligible marketed adult supplement, or its authorized representative. ASA membership is not required. Check eligibility.
Can companies outside the United States apply?
Yes. Identify the product’s sales market and meet the same eligibility and evidence requirements. An award does not grant market authorization.
Is there an annual deadline?
The program uses rolling applications, with no annual competition deadline. Check the application guide for current submission availability.
Can I submit a product before launch?
No. The product must already be marketed. Concept formulas and standalone business-to-business ingredients are outside the program.
Are samples required?
No. Assessment uses documents submitted online. ASA does not collect or test samples through the awards program.
Do I need a new clinical trial or a particular laboratory?
There is no universal requirement for a new trial or a designated laboratory. Evidence must be sufficient for the formulation and claims being assessed. Read the evidence checklist.
Assessment and timing
When does the three-month review period begin?
The target is 90 calendar days from acceptance of a complete application. The initial completeness check has a separate target of 10 business days. Time awaiting applicant information is excluded from the review period.
What happens if more information is needed?
A request in your account identifies the question and response deadline. The usual response period is 30 calendar days, with one extension of up to 30 days available on request before the deadline. Read the process.
Is expedited review available?
No. There is no paid expedited service.
What is required for an award?
All six required conditions, a total score of at least 85 out of 100, and the minimum score in every assessment area. There is no quota of awards. Read the criteria.
Are unsuccessful applications published?
No. Only approved award records are public. Application evidence and confidential assessments remain restricted.
Can I appeal a decision?
Yes, within 30 calendar days and on the published grounds. Read the appeals procedure.
Benefits and costs
What is free?
Application, review, the digital certificate, registry listing, verification, permitted digital artwork, appeals, and renewal application and review. View the fee policy.
Must I buy a trophy, printed certificate, or labels?
No. These are optional purchases. They have no effect on the decision, free benefits, registry search order, or future review.
May I arrange my own labels?
Yes. Use the approved files for the awarded product within the active term and the artwork rules.
Award scope and renewal
Does the award certify safety or effectiveness?
No. It confirms that the submitted evidence met ASA’s award criteria. It is not government approval, laboratory testing by ASA, or a guarantee of product outcomes.
How long is an award valid?
The standard term is 24 months from the decision, subject to the status and change rules. Product information is confirmed at 12 months.
What if the formula changes?
Report the change before using the award on the revised product. Changes to an active ingredient, dose, strain, or intended population generally require a new application. Read the change requirements.
Does renewal extend the existing award automatically?
No. Renewal requires assessment and approval. Apply about 120 days before expiry to allow time for review.
How can a certificate be checked?
Use its award number or QR link to open the official record and compare the product details and current status. Verify a certificate.
