Who may apply
The company responsible for the product, or its authorized representative, may apply. ASA membership is not required.
The application must identify the responsible legal entity and authorized contact. A consultant or distributor acting for another company must provide that company’s authorization.
Eligible products
The product must have:
- An identifiable formulation and current label.
- Evidence that it is sold in at least one named market.
- Supporting information on its ingredients, intended use, safety, quality controls, and claims.
- Sufficient ingredient identities and quantities for the reviewers to assess it.
Confidential formulation information is restricted to authorized personnel. Its confidential status does not remove the requirement to provide it for review.
Products outside the program
The following are not eligible:
- Unmarketed products, concept formulas, and unfinished formulations.
- Standalone ingredients sold only to other businesses.
- Ordinary foods, medicines, medical devices, and injectable products.
- Animal products.
- Products specifically intended for children, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
- Applications seeking an award for disease-treatment claims.
A product labeled for an excluded population remains outside scope even if the application also identifies adult users. ASA may decline a submission when its classification or assessment needs fall outside the program.
Markets and language
Identify each sales market covered by the application. Provide evidence of the product’s market status and explain any relevant differences in labels or claims.
Applications and review correspondence are in English. Documents in another language require an accurate English translation alongside the original. An award does not establish permission to sell in a particular country.
Product versions
One application covers one formulation and label version. Package sizes may share an application when composition, directions, claims, and intended users are unchanged. Different formulas or materially different labels require separate review.
