American Supplement Association
Premium Supplement Awards

Product changes and renewal

An award covers the formulation and term shown in its official record. Recipients must keep the product information accurate and report changes relevant to the assessment.

Supplement manufacturing and quality controls

Award term

The standard term is 24 months from the award decision. The certificate and record show the dates. Suspension, withdrawal, or revocation can end or interrupt current use earlier.

Reprinting a certificate, buying materials, or submitting a renewal does not extend the existing term.

Annual confirmation

ASA requests confirmation at 12 months, with 30 calendar days to respond. Check the formulation, label, company, markets, and relevant safety information against the awarded version.

Report differences through the product-change process rather than confirming an outdated record.

  • Active ingredients, forms, doses, strains, or relevant specifications.
  • Intended users, directions, duration of use, or claims.
  • Manufacturing or quality controls relevant to the award.
  • Stability, packaging, or shelf-life support.
  • The responsible company, product identity, or authorization.
  • Significant safety information, recalls, or relevant regulatory action.

Assessment of changes

A spelling correction may need only a record update. A technical change can require limited review or a new application. ASA may suspend current use while a material issue is resolved.

Changes to an active ingredient, dose, strain, or intended population generally require a new application. The original award cannot be applied to that version while a decision is pending.

Renewal application

Apply about 120 days before expiry to allow time for review. Provide current product information and identify changes since the previous assessment. Renewal application and review are free.

An approved renewal establishes a new term under the criteria applied to that review. Earlier dates and criteria remain in the history. If renewal is not approved before expiry, the existing award expires on its recorded date.

Historical awards

Historical records remain available with their status clearly identified. Access to a past certificate does not authorize new use of an inactive award mark.
