Vitamins & Minerals
Single-nutrient and combined vitamin or mineral supplements. Review considers nutrient forms, amounts per serving, daily intake, and the basis for use.
The application must distinguish compound weight from active nutrient content and address relevant intake reference levels.

Botanical Supplements
Products based on plants, extracts, or other botanical preparations. Assessment considers species, plant part, extraction, standardization, and identity.
Scientific support must relate to the preparation used. Explain material differences between the marketed extract and those studied in the cited research.

Omega-3 & Other Lipid Supplements
Fish, algal, plant, and other lipid-based supplements. Assessment considers source, composition, quantities of relevant constituents, analytical results, and stability.
State the amount of each claimed component separately from the total amount of oil.

Protein & Amino Acid Supplements
Protein and amino acid formulations marketed as dietary supplements. Review covers source, composition, serving pattern, analytical methods, intended use, and allergens.
Distinguish total protein content from claims about individual amino acids.

Multi-Ingredient & Other Supplements
Combinations and eligible formulations that do not fit the categories above. Assessment considers the role and amount of each active ingredient and the rationale for the combination.
Address overlapping exposures and interactions. Evidence for separate ingredients must be evaluated for its relevance to the complete formulation.
Selecting a category
Select one primary category in the application. The formulation determines the assignment; a marketing claim alone does not change the product type. ASA may reassign a category to match the required expertise.
Describe related versions separately so that reviewers can identify which formulation and label are being submitted.
